Officer Lindsey May named Macomb Police Department Officer of the Year for 2013!

In 2012 the Macomb Police Department started the Officer of the Year award.

The Officer of The Year is an officer that has been identified as an officer who exemplifies dedication to duty, demonstrates outstanding job performance, unsullied moral character, exceptional community/civic leadership or service and maintains a professional police image and bearing. Officer May serves as one of the department’s two K-9 officers, is a member of the Strategic Response Team and is a Field Training Officer. In his capacity as a K-9 Officer, Officer May has been instrumental in assembling a local K-9 training facility here in Macomb. Officer May organized a K-9 search at the Macomb High School coordinating with school officials, area K-9 Officers and MPD Administration. Officer May organized an interdiction detail that resulted in over $2,000 in US Currency being seized as well as the recovery of crack cocaine, over 600 grams of cannabis and resulted in over 10 felony arrests. Officer May has seized thousands of dollars and recovered hundreds of grams of illegal narcotics through his numerous traffic stops. In addition Officer May has assisted the investigations divisions in drug investigations and general criminal investigations assisting in the investigations of the Wal-Mart Burglary and the recent identification and arrest of suspects in over eight burglaries.

Officer May coordinates the Macomb FOP Lodge 189 Shop with a Cop program. Working through the FOP Officer May has purchased and personally delivered gifts for underprivileged children around the holidays. Officer May is also a football coach for the Macomb School District. Officer May implemented a mandatory study hall for all players to improve their academics and was successful in having all players academically eligible to play this past season.

Officer Lindsey May has demonstrated outstanding job performance and an extreme dedication to duty. Officer May’s willingness to confront the criminal element is unmatched. Officer May’s community involvement also demonstrates a dedication to the community and a willingness to serve the public.

In addition, Officer May was presented with a Letter of Commendation from the Macomb Police Department for his part in an investigation in December that led to the arrest of three suspects in over eight burglaries in Macomb.

Two Officers Receive Lifesaving Awards

On 02/10/2014 Officers Derek Wiley and Todd Tedrow  received the Macomb Police Department Lifesaving Award for actions in December 2013.

Officer Wiley was dispatched to a residence in Macomb for a suicidal subject. The subject was not located in the residence however Officer Wiley continued to investigate the issue. Officer Wiley was able to determine the correct address where the suicidal subject was located. Officer Wiley persisted at the residence where he was finally able to make contact with another subject who let officers in and led them to the victim who was unconscious. Officers Wiley and Tedrow worked together to remove tape and a plastic bag from the victims head thereby allowing the subject to breath again. The subject was treated by medical personnel. Due to Officer Wiley’s diligence and both officers quick thinking, calm demeanor and teamwork they were able to save the subjects life.
