On 05/22/14, The Macomb Police Department was investigating the production of counterfeit money. Several reports had been made in the past couple of weeks on counterfeit currency being circulated through several local businesses and banks in Macomb. During the investigation on 05/22/14, Investigators with the Macomb Police Department, McDonough County Sherriff’s Office and Office of the Public Safety learned that the counterfeit currency printer was possibly located at 321 N. McArthur St. Apartment 1. Alvin Montgomery was located at the apartment and after a search warrant was conducted at the residence, it was revealed that Montgomery had burned evidence in a small fire prior to officers making contact. The printer believed to be responsible for producing the counterfeit bills was recovered at the residence. Montgomery was charged with Obstructing Justice, Deceptive Practice, and Forgery.
The investigation in this case is still ongoing and may lead to additional charges.
