The Macomb Police Department is investigating an incident in which counterfeit fifty dollar bills have been used to purchase items from a business. The business conducts in-store purchases as well as delivery purchases so it has not been confirmed how the counterfeit bills were obtained by the business. The counterfeit fifty dollar bills all have the same serial number of JD72596327A. These bills are of a high quality and are difficult to detect by feel alone. Businesses and individuals are cautioned to check any large bills being used in transactions. Any business coming in contact with any suspicious bills of any denomination are encouraged to call the Macomb Police Department immediately at 309-833-4505.
The Macomb Police Department today announced its plans for the 2014 Holiday “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over/Click It or Ticket” Crackdown. The intensified enforcement effort against drunk drivers and seat belt law violators underscores the disproportionate number of traffic deaths caused by alcohol and failure to buckle up. The stepped-up enforcement will begin Dec. 19th and run through January 4th, 2015. Enforcement efforts will concentrate on the deadly nighttime hours between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.
According to data from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the midnight to 3 a.m. timeframe is the deadliest time on Illinois roadways, and 9 p.m. is the time of day when data shows that alcohol involvement and low seat belt use begins to play a much more significant role in motor vehicle fatalities. Data shows alcohol and lack of belt use continues throughout the nighttime hours until 6 a.m.
Those driving under the influence will be arrested. Those traveling unbuckled will be ticketed. Drivers need to be responsible and take simple precautions. The Macomb Police Department recommends:
Plan ahead. Designate a sober driver before going out and give that person your keys.
If you are impaired, call a taxi, use mass transit or call a sober friend or family member to get you home safely.
Promptly report impaired drivers you see on the roadways to law enforcement.
Wear your safety belt. It is your best defense against an impaired driver.
The law enforcement crackdown runs concurrently with a media campaign that reminds motorists to “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket,” and is administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation with funds made available via the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Driving drunk brings a wide range of negative consequences into one’s life. Drunk drivers face jail time, loss of their driver licenses, and steep financial consequences such as higher insurance rates, attorney fees, court costs, lost time at work and the potential loss of employment.
The Macomb Police Department is dedicated to the safety of our community. Details as such are designed to increase the awareness of these issues in our community and to gain voluntary compliance with the motoring public.
