Due to the Heat Advisory issued for Macomb by the National Weather Service, Mayor Inman announced that the Community Room located on the first floor of City Hall; 232 E. Jackson Street will be open as a cooling center for area residents from Thursday, July 21 through Friday, July 22, during normal business hours, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Officials will monitor the weather forecast and should the need continue, consideration will be given to extending the Cooling Center through the weekend. As a reminder, the Go West bus transportation system will be running during these hours and can be used for those who may not have transportation.
Mayor Inman is grateful to also announce that the Corbin and Olson halls commons area will be open, on the Campus of Western Illinois University (WIU) from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. through Sunday, July 24 for anyone needing a place to cool off. Drinking water refilling stations are available in each residence hall.
Mayor Inman also stresses to, “Be sure to drink plenty of water and check on neighbors, children, the elderly, and pets during this high heat period,”
