On 10/01/2014 a Macomb resident on James Drive reported that two men approached her and offered to seal coat her driveway with oil tar. The victim agreed to allow the subjects to seal the cracks in the driveway and the subjects began to perform the work. The subjects then approached her again and convinced her to have the entire driveway done. The subjects convinced the victim to pay in cash. After doing so the victim left the residence while the men were still working. Upon return to the house, the victim found the driveway to have been seal coated but also found that her house had been ransacked and burglarized. Taken in the burglary were several pieces of jewelry and some collector coins. The subjects who seal coated the driveway are the main suspects in this burglary.

The Macomb Police Department would like to take this opportunity to remind the community to be cautious of subjects offering unsolicited work in or around their residence. Often times these subjects are checking out your residence to come back and burglarize it later or they promise to do a job and do not finish the work after you have paid them in full. Don’t be a victim. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. For more information on scams check out the Macomb Police Department website at www.macombpolice.com.
