On Saturday, April 18, 2015, members of the Macomb Police Department’s Explorer Post #4044 participated in a community service project by painting over graffiti at the old Haeger Pottery Plant.
Over the past several months vandals have tagged the building, painting gang-related symbols and other graffiti on the side of it. Several explorers volunteered their own time to participate in the event and cover the graffiti.
The explorer post is comprised of young adults, age 14 to 21, who are interested in law enforcement. Explorers receive both classroom and hands-on instruction in various topics to include traffic stops, accident and crime scene investigation, control and arrest tactics, report writing, CPR, and many other topics.
The mission of the explorer post is to develop, mentor, and teach youths from the community skills, leadership, and values that will make them successful in their future endeavors.
